Poncho Tours was founded by Nick Evans, a Brit who fell in love with this part of the world, and his wife Alicia, a native of Salta: dedicated to providing a bespoke, personalised service from start to finish.
After moving from London to Salta in 2008, Nick and Alicia opened a small B&B at their old colonial house, and started taking some of the guests on tours.
And so Poncho Tours was born!
Although the B&B is no longer operating, Poncho Tours' philosophy remains the same: a personal, personalised service from beginning to end: helping you decide where to go in Argentina.
Salta is just a few hours’ drive from the wine region of Cafayate in the spectacular Calchaquies valleys, and close to northern Chile and southern Bolivia.
It is the perfect base from which to explore the Inca north of Jujuy and the stark landscape of the Altiplano where the Tren a las Nubes (Train to the Clouds) scales the mountains.
Poncho Tours can take you deep into the mountain plateau in one of our 4x4s; explore the wine route from Salta to Mendoza; sample asados (traditional barbecues) and ride horses on working estancias; and on hiking trips into remote areas where you will stay with the locals and get an insight into their everyday life.
We are also strategically placed for tours across the border to the famous Salares of Uyuni in Bolivia- the only salt flats visible from space- and to explore the Atacama desert in Chile.
The choices are yours, though we are here to make recommendations and suggestions based on your preferences.
Because we live here, we know where to go in Argentina, and we have the most up to date knowledge of the best trails, restaurants and vineyards, before they find their way into the guide books.
When you contact Poncho Tours it’s us, Nick and Alicia, who you’ll be dealing with: and we’ll help you design your holiday from start to finish.
Your trips will be tailor-made exclusively for you in your own private vehicle, with one of our network of English-speaking specialists.
Nick was a tour guide extraordinaire - he is knowledgeable, easy going and patient, full of interesting stories and very personable. He'll organise a day around your interests and make it memorable. Highly recommended!
Quedamos impresionados con los cardones, con las salinas, con la gente, con los colores, con todo. La experiencia es única y absolutamente recomendable.
The experience was absolutely extraordinary and I cannot recommend our guide Mariano and Poncho Tours enough.
We saw so much more in 3 days than we would ever have seen on our own.
